Millbrook & Budds Farm Sludge Treatment Centres
Woodhams Group delivered a major mechanical installation package across two live sludge treatment centres, improving treatment capacity, operational resilience and long-term asset performance.
Woodhams Group was appointed by Galliford Try on behalf of Southern Water to deliver a £3 million MEICA installation package across the Millbrook and Budds Farm Sludge Treatment Centres.
The project formed part of Southern Water’s wider investment programme to improve sludge treatment capacity, enhance operational resilience and increase process efficiency across both sites. Working within live operational environments, the project required careful planning and coordination to ensure critical wastewater treatment processes remained fully operational throughout construction. The scope included high-level process pipework installations, structural steelwork, access platforms, digester installations, pumping systems, drum thickener replacements within an ATEX Zone 2 environment and extensive stainless-steel process pipework.
Woodhams Group provided a complete mechanical installation package, drawing upon extensive experience in the water and wastewater sector.
Our team designed, manufactured and installed large-scale stainless-steel process pipework systems, structural steelwork, elevated pipe racks, digesters, pumping systems, belt thickeners, centrifuge systems and associated process equipment. All works were carefully sequenced and delivered within live operational environments, requiring close collaboration with Galliford Try, Southern Water and site operations teams. Robust health, safety and quality procedures ensured all installations were completed efficiently while maintaining operational continuity and compliance with site requirements.
The project was successfully delivered over a three-year period with no disruption to ongoing treatment operations. Woodhams safely completed a number of complex high-level installations and specialist process equipment upgrades, helping Southern Water increase treatment capacity, improve operational resilience and enhance the long-term performance of critical wastewater assets. The successful delivery of this £3 million package further demonstrated Woodhams Group’s capability to deliver complex mechanical projects within live operational water industry environments.
